Golabki-Stuffed Cabbage (Poland)

Ingrediens:

  • 1 whole head cabbage
  • 0,5 kg ground beef
  • 0,25 kg groung pork
  • 1 1/2 cups of cooked rice
  • 1 onion
  • 2 garlic
  • 2 tablespoons of butter
  • 1 teaspoon of majoram
  • 1 teaspoon of pepper
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 cup of beefstock or tomato sauce

Directions:

  • you can blanche whole cabbage head (remove its core) or just leaves
  • remove all the hard parts that are left on cabbage leaves that could prevent them from rolling
  • saute chopped onion and garlic on butter over medium heat and let them cool
  • mix ground meat with rice, salt and pepper and put about 2 or 3 spoons of meat in the center of each leaf
  • fold the sides and roll it into small roll
  • put the cabbage rolls in bigger casserole and pour beef stock or tomato sauce all over it. If you have tomato sauce sprinkle majoram in it first before pouring it all over cabbage rolls. 
  • bake it for about 1 or 1,5 hours until the meat is cooked and the cabbage is tender
